About

I'm Vinny Green. Here's how I ended up doing this work, in the order it happened.

Marine Corps 2009–2014

I joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 2009 and served as a ground radio repairer (MOS 2841) until I was honorably discharged in 2014. The job was keeping tactical radio systems deployed and working in high-tempo conditions, with structured troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. That's where I started thinking like an operator, and treating infrastructure as something people depend on.

MiraCosta College 2013–2015

Toward the end of my service I started at MiraCosta College. I earned an A.A. in Sociology for Transfer and an A.A. in Liberal Arts with an Arts and Humanities emphasis, and joined Phi Theta Kappa. It's also where I ran a crowdfunding campaign for a San Diego food bank. That's where a habit started that I've kept ever since: putting infrastructure behind the little guy.

Proper Media 2015–2017

In 2015 I co-founded Proper Media and ran operations as VP. We delivered yield optimization, header bidding, and modern infrastructure to top-tier publishers, and I set up the company's HR, finance, payroll, and ad-server operations from scratch. I left in 2017; Sovrn acquired the company in 2021.

Snopes 2016–2022

In 2016 I became co-owner and chief operating officer of Snopes. I moved the site to Altis Cloud DXP with Human Made, and it handled traffic peaks near 38 million monthly visitors without a traffic-related outage. I rebuilt the business from 100% programmatic ads to a 50/50 mix of ads and reader subscriptions, with merchandise fulfillment automated. I structured Snopes' first Facebook partnership, and in 2019 I led our exit from it so we kept control of our own data. I also did the infrastructure forensics and OSINT work behind investigations into international subscription funnels and deceptive political media networks.

My co-founders called me "the union" because I kept lobbying for staff pay and benefits. When the fight over the company turned into multi-year litigation, I sided with Snopes' founder against my own co-founders, and that carried real personal risk — my lawyers called me "the mouse on the elephant's dance floor." I co-led the $1.8M crowdfunding campaign that paid for that fight.

My own practice 2022–

In 2022 I started my own practice, Vinny S. Green, LLC, and became the operator companies bring in when they need one. That's meant embedded technical project management at an enterprise WordPress agency, platform migrations and ground-up rebuilds, and business development for an ad-tech analytics firm. I've been the person setting the roadmap and the engineer shipping against it, often in the same week. My scopes have to survive an editorial calendar, and my recommendations answer to a P&L, not just a backlog.

Now

Today I'm finishing a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Baltimore and running a deliberately small practice from Maryland. I don't take every client. If we're not a fit, I'll tell you on the first call and point you somewhere better.

Your code, credentials, and data are always yours — from day one.

When I'm not untangling editorial workflows or edge caches, I'm usually with my dog or watching basketball.

I'm taking on a small number of new clients.

Pricing is fixed and the work is senior. You deal with me — not an hourly meter, a ticket queue, or an account manager.
